Introduction

At Nottingham Academy our aim is to develop, enhance and cultivate the visual arts. We do this through a programme which embraces innovation whilst developing traditional skills. The Nottingham Academy has a thriving Art department with creative and experienced staff.

Starting Art GCSE in Year 9 offers pupils the chance to experiment with a wide range of specialist materials, trial new techniques and refine their skills before the start of Year 10.
Artwork is proudly displayed in our classrooms to inspire our pupils to achieve. Click the tabs on the left to learn more about the Art curriculum at key stage 3 and 4.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities

• Art lunchtime clubs are available once a week for KS3 & twice for KS4. This offers a chance for students to complete homework, classwork and to access a wide range of materials. Help is on hand for any students needing extra guidance.

• After school clubs are available throughout the week, which run on a Tuesday and Friday. This is popular with our KS4 students as they benefit from the 1:1 support offered by Mrs Billson.

• Visits to the Nottingham Contemporary Gallery in the city centre, providing students the opportunity to participate in workshops and work alongside a practising artist.

• An annual art trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which feeds directly into GCSE coursework. Pupils are able to view the work of sculptors by artists such as Henry Moore, Barbra Hepworth, Peter Randall-Page and Anthony Gormley. This is then used to develop and demonstrate artist research which covers one of the four assessment objectives at GCSE.
