Nottingham Academy

Key Stage 3

At the Nottingham Academy, pupils are taught mathematics according to the level they are working towards. On entry at Key Stage 3 pupils are assigned to follow a scheme of work that will ensure they make at least three levels of progress over their five years. At KS4 we build on the KS3 pathways to ensure smooth progression.

The curriculum is split into four main areas:

  • Numbers
  • Algebra
  • Shape & Space
  • Handling Data.

A specific focus on Using and Applying mathematics (using mathematical skills in practical settings, problem solving and developing reasoning) is required in each of the four disciplines.

Assessment occurs regularly at the end of each unit of work, with a holistic examination at the end of each term.
